The State Agency of Medicines has considerably improved the Medicinal product register

To ensure that information regarding medicines is quick, easy and simple to find, the State Agency of Medicines (hereinafter - SAM) has improved the Medicinal product register search form that is available on SAM website www.zva.gov.lv. Basing on suggestions from clients several significant improvements have been made - the search procedure of medicines has been simplified and the overview of information regarding selected medicines is more convenient.

Director of the State Agency of Medicines Inguna Adoviča: "The State Agency of Medicines develops and maintains the Medicinal product register of the Republic of Latvia which is the source of official information regarding authorised medicines. We have purposefully improved the Register with technical solutions to help not only health care professionals, but also the general public to obtain all the necessary information regarding medicines easily and quickly."

In comparison with the previous Medicinal product register the improved Register offers only a single search window where information can be searched according to one of the available parameters: product name, active substance, marketing authorisation holder or ATC code. By using the additional search parameters the search results can be narrowed down.

Same as before the following information regarding medicines can be found in the Medicinal product register of the Republic of Latvia: authorisation information, dispensing status (prescription or non-prescription medicines), strength/concentration, pharmaceutical form, name of active substance, ATC code, DDD (defined daily dose), information regarding use of medicines in children, information regarding availability, as well as patient information (package) leaflet and summary of product characteristics.

The electronic search form of the Medicinal product register is the most popular section of SAM website. Each month it is visited on average 70 000 times, and each year - 880 000 times.

SAM invites health care specialists to use the Medicinal product register because the detailed information it provides can make prescribing medicines more convenient. We also advise patients to use the information provided by the Medicinal product register, namely the patient information leaflet. We would also appreciate any suggestions and recommendations for further improvement.
